Atlanta Lodging Outlook 2012 - September 7th, 2011
A record crowd of 400 Atlanta area hotel industry professionals attended the 13th annual Atlanta Lodging Outlook breakfast seminar on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. This year’s event was held at the InterContinental Hotel in Buckhead. Our host was Brian Ettelman ’87, Director of Catering. Atlanta Lodging Outlook is organized by the Georgia Chapter of the Cornell Hotel Society with promotional assistance from the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) and the Georgia Hotel and Lodging Association (GHLA). The seminar is designed to provide hotel owners and operators with the information they need to prepare their marketing plans and budgets for the upcoming year. This year we were honored to have Dean Michael Johnson serve as moderator for the event. Joining Dean Johnson from Ithaca was Associate Dean Jon Denison. Georgia Chapter president Meri Goldstein ‘04 welcomed the attendees and then turned the proceedings over to Dean Johnson. Following his opening comments, Dean Johnson moderated a panel of local area experts: • Roger Tutterow Ph.D., Professor of Economics with Mercer University • Mark Vaughan, Executive VP of the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau • Tim Hart, Executive Vice President of TravelClick • Mark Woodworth ’77, President of PKF Hospitality Research Proceeds from the event help support the Georgia chapter’s scholarship fund. With the record attendance level, we will be able to contribute $10,000 to the fund this year.
Georgia Chapter Welcomes New Students - August 11th, 2011
On Thursday, August 11, a record crowd of 20 Georgia Hotel School alumni gathered at the Mellow Mushroom Brookhaven restaurant to host new and current students from the Atlanta area. Special guests of honor were incoming freshman Austin Hulse ’15 and his parents, as well as Culinary Institute of America transfer student Carolyn Ralph ’13 and her mother. Briefing them on life as a hotelie were Nicolle Wiggins ’14, Ben Gatchell ’11, and Adam Dennett ’11. After consuming pizza and salad, chapter President Meri Goldstein ’04 welcomed the new students and their parents. The alumni in attendance then took time to share their favorite, and least favorite, memories of Ithaca. We wish all of the hotelies from Georgia the best of success during the 2011 – 2012 school year.
Georgia Chapter Treated to Serene Lunch at Serenbe - May 21st, 2011
On Saturday, May 21, 2011, fifty Georgia hotelies, along with their families, were treated to a very special lunch and tour of the Serenbe Community south of Atlanta. Serenbe is a 1,000 acre national model for the future of balanced development in the U.S. – focusing on land preservation, agriculture, energy efficiency, green building, walkability, high density building, arts and culture, and community living for multiple generations. Our hostess for the event was Garnie Nygren ’05. After dining on the Serenbe Inn’s famous fried chicken, Garnie presented the story of how she, her parents, and her two sisters transformed the original 60 acres and farmhouse into the multi-use development it is today. For the complete story, please visit www.serenbecommunity.com. This was the first of what we hope will be an annual family event on the CHS-GA calendar.
